Seat Covers Research Guide

This automobile seat cover research guide is compiled to assist those who need help to find a perfect seat cover for their car, van, truck or SUV. When your upholstery gets damaged there is one name you can bank upon, Coverking. This company based out of California in the United States offers a wide range of covers for the factory fitted upholstery that is almost sure to get damaged. And so, you must get seat covers for your vehicle immediately on purchase of the automobile as the upholstery gets spoiled easily.

Plus there are other advantages too for covering up the seats. Covers create a new interior décor that suits your lifestyle and enhances the look. Seat covers provide an excellent cost effective alternative to a complete re-upholstering which is an expensive affair.

Proactive protection of seats reference

All automobile seats are subjected to a number of perils everyday, which include:

Moisture
Moisture harms your seat covers as they become tacky to the touch when it gets wet. Seat covers that are made of leather loses all its natural oils. Cloth seating also gets easily damaged from moisture. Seepage of water into the factory-installed fabric makes it look ugly and stinky, and the fabric festers as well. All fabrics from Coverking come in a wide selection of materials which has varying degree of water resistance properties to protect your interior. And your cover will never get damaged even if you soak it with water. Never again let this happen.

Kids and Pets
Kids can cause a lot of damage too. And the worst part is, you cannot even rebuke them when they cause this damage. There can be drink spills, and chunks of chocolate on the seat, all leading to damage. The same goes for your furry, four-legged friend. Pets can scratch up the material and saliva too can lead to damage.

Friction
The simple action of getting in and out of the vehicle can be stressful to the original seats. Your seat covers will have to withstand this daily stress. Like the grating of a sandpaper on a jagged block of wood, the texture of clothing grates against the texture of the upholstery. The constant rubbing between your clothing and the seat ruins the upholstery. And so, slowly, the strength of the leather or fabric starts to wane. You must get a seat cover to stop this from happening.

UV Damage
Phototherapy using Ultra violet has opened out newer vistas in the medical world. However it must be kept in mind that too much sun exposure is not good for our skin and eyes, and it certainly damages the automobile upholstery. Leather gets easily damaged because of UV radiation as it dries out the natural oils in the leather. Without these oils keeping things moist, the leather will eventually start to crack. Cloth upholstery is also in grave danger from UV rays. Direct sunlight on the fabric seat cover has a bleaching effect. Where once your seats were dark blue or black, an overdose of ultra violet radiation will leave them looking purple or ashen. It is not possible to park your car in the shade at all times and so all you can do really is offer protection to the upholstery by getting a seat cover.

Guide to covering your damaged seats
Often your original upholstery gets damaged from a leaking pen or a torn seam that threatens to ruin the look. If this happens there is no need for a complete re-upholstering. You can get a set of sturdy car seat covers and slide it over the old ones. No muss, no fuss - just great looking seat covers that fit like gloves. However, there are three different fitting seat covers, and they are the

  • Custom seat cover
  • Semi custom seat cover
  • Universal seat cover

Custom Fit Seat Covers are cut and stitched to fit the unique shapes and contours of the particular automobile. They are meticulously designed for a precise fit over your seats. No part of your vehicle's seat is forgotten or overlooked and the position of the head rest, the location of the seat's ergonomic controls, where your seatbelts are mounted… everything is given the due attention it deserves. The covers are created after minute consideration of every detail, and these made-to-measure seat covers will fit like they were factory-installed. Custom-fit seat covers will not obstruct your seat's side-impact airbags, so you'll be just as secure as before, only with better looking and better protected upholstery.

Semi-Custom Fit Seat Covers are much more economical than custom seat covers. However the semi-custom fit seat covers do not leave access to lumbar controls and you must not install them in vehicles which has these safety installations.

Universal Seat Covers will fit any high-back or low-back bucket seat, regardless of the make, model or the year of manufacture. Like the semi-custom seat covers, the universal seat covers should not be used on seats with side-impact airbags. These covers are not recommended because rarely do they offer a good fit.
